Freshman Index Requirements

Information for Future Students

In addition to meeting the Required High School Curriculum (RHSC), High School GPA (HS GPA) and standardized test score requirements, students applying to a research, comprehensive, or state university, or select state colleges, must meet a minimum Freshman Index (FI). The FI is calculated using an applicant’s HS GPA and SAT or ACT scores.

SAT Freshman Index (FI) Formula
FI = 500 x (HS GPA) + 1.06 x (SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing Section Score + SAT Math Section score) – 74

Example
A student with a 2.9 HS GPA and 480 SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score and 440 SAT Math score would use the following FI calculation:
SAT FI = 500 x (2.9) + 1.06 x (480 + 440) – 74
SAT FI = 2351.2

ACT Freshman Index (FI) Formula
FI = 500 x (HS GPA) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88

Example
A student with a 2.7 HS GPA and 18 ACT Composite would use the following FI
calculation:
ACT FI = 500 x (2.7) + (18 x 42) + 88
ACT FI = 2194
